The first descendant is a looter shooter kind of like Warframe in Destiny. In fact, it takes a lot of inspiration from those games, especially Warframe, to create an RPG PVE grindfest where you can upgrade your heroes. There are different characters that are like frames and get better weapons as you progress through the story. But is this game worth your time or not? That is what we will discuss here.
Descendants have clear distinct differences and play styles
that you absolutely fall in love with. When you start The First Descendant,
you'll have access to three characters: Ajax (the tank hero with defensive
powers), Lepic (a full DPS character who utilizes the fire element with his
explosives), and Viessa (a debuffer whose main gimmick involves her Ice Sphere
passive). While playing, you can unlock around 16 more descendants to enjoy.
My favorite part is boss fights. There are eight boss
battles, including a mecha-crab you can grapple around and another that rains
down icicles like a Final Fantasy summon. You need to reach the endgame to
fight those massive bosses.
Sadly, there are a lot of microtransactions, but there is no
paywall. Most of the content is available. Being pay to win differs from person
to person to a lot of content creators; it is 'being the best and fastest', so
they can buy their way to their win condition. To them, it may be 'p2w'. Most
people don't need to be the first person to make a max build and kill the final
hard bosses in under a minute a week after launch for content. Most will be
fine playing and farming for a month before even attempting the current final
bosses; it's about having fun.
Let's talk about the core of the game itself: is this game
actually good or is it going to die like so many have? It's kind of a blend of
a lot of different things, like Destiny and Warframe. You don't have armor;
everything really comes down to your mods, and then you get your weapons. Then
you have mastery ranks, in terms of what the game is. I mean, it is a looter.
You go out in the world, you kill things, you come back, you take those things,
and you upgrade them.
